But aside from its rich history, you will be pleased to know that one of the main tourist attractions inside the country is its collection of magnificent architectural pieces such as buildings and castles. One of them is the Hohenschwangau Castle in Schwangau near Füssen.

The Hohenschwangau Castle, also known as "Schloss Hohenschwangau", literally means the High Swan Palace. It is a palace in South Germany which was built sometime in the 19th century. It was actually the residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria when he was still a child. His father, King Maximilian II was the one who built the castle.  As a matter of fact, the castle is located very close to the border of Austria.

The castle was built on top of the remains and ruins of the fortress called Schwanstein which was considered to be in existence since the 12th century. It served as a medieval fortress for a family of knights as well as the seat of power of the local government. However in 1523, the walls of the Schloss were considered to be very thin for it to defend the area. During the two World Wars, people were surprised that the castle did not suffer any level of damage.  This made people look at it with so much amazement as it is one of the relatively few castles that was able to withstand the test of time.  As a matter of fact, when you look at the list of historically significant architectural pieces in Germany and Europe as a whole, the Hohenschwangau Castle would be among those popularly visited places.

Today, the local government has made the Hohenschwangau Castle one of its main tourist attractions. You can visit it and explore the place at the same time without having the fear of being stuck in an uncivilized place thanks to a string of local hotels which can offer comfort to you and your family. You might even be surprised that cable car systems are already installed up the Tegelberg Mountain in order for you to get a birds eye view of the castle, as well as the Alps. By choosing to go to this place, you will surely be amazed at the depth of the story that makes Hohenschwangau a destination of a lifetime.
