Fun At The Castle

Have you ever heard of the Neuschwanstein Castle? It’s one of the most known castles in the world. This castle is located on a hill in southwest Germany, close to the village of Hohenschwangau. It was Ludwig II, king of Bavaria, who commissioned it in honor of the German composer Richard Wagner. He actually paid for it with his own funds, because he was very fond of Wagner’s operas. The castle was constructed in 1869 and the king lived in it until he died in 1886.

Shortly after that, the castle was opened to the public and you can still visit it today if you want to see a really old, fairy-tale castle for real. However, the castle has never been completed the way it was intended to be it still has a wonderful exterior and interior that amazes tourists. The fact is that Disney took inspiration from the Neuschwanstein Castle when creating castles in his fairytales.

If you wish to visit the castle it isn’t hard to get there. If you are residing in Munich it takes about two hours to drive to Neuschwanstein, so it’s perfect for a day trip. However, if you are in Innsbruck in Austria it’s even closer to the castle, it takes around 1 hour and 40 minutes to get there then. You can also take a bus tour or take the train if you don’t have a car or if you don’t want to rent a car. There are many ways to get to the location and see the wonderful castle.

As Neuschwanstein is a famous tourist attraction it’s necessary to buy your tickets in advance. You can’t buy the tickets at the castle, so either you buy them in advance or on the same day at the ticket office in the village of Hohenschwangau. During high season it’s always recommended to buy your tickets in advance. You aren’t allowed to take pictures or record videos inside the castle, and you always need to buy your tickets via one of the castle tours of Neuschwanstein.

The castle is open every day, except for four days of the year. The guided tours are interesting and since you can’t visit without a tour then you have no other choice than to take part in it. A ticket is 13 Euros for everyone above 18 years, those under 18 years can visit the castle free of charge. It’s an absolutely beautiful castle with a great interior. It’s like nothing you have ever seen before and thanks to the prohibition of photography there are only a few licensed pictures available online. But can you stay at Neuschwanstein Castle? No, you can’t but there are places to stay not too far from the attraction.

You can also walk on other walking trails passed the bridge to get good pictures and selfies with the castle.
