Castle Neuschwanstein is a castle in Southern Germany that was built from 1868 until it’s final completion in 1892. The castle was built to be a secondary residence for the King of Bavaria. Today the castle serves as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany and even throughout the whole world.

This war had many implications but one of the main ones is that King Ludwig II of Bavaria could no longer rule his people with force or coercion (no army). Ludwig II wanted to be a “real” king and so he set out to make his castles the best in all of Europe. Castle Neuschwanstein was one project where King Ludwig II really did a fantastic job. The design, aesthetics, and overall beauty of the castle are remarkable.

When visiting the castle there are a few things you should keep an eye out for. First, tourists should definitely try and immerse themselves in the mixture of medieval and gothic architecture that the castle presents. The mixture of these two styles in one of the reasons why the castle is so unique today. Tourists who have been to other castles usually come away amazed at the difference. That leads to the second thing tourists should try to learn: the history of the castle. Obviously, you want to learn as much as you can wherever you travel too. However, it is extremely important to understand the history of Castle Neuschwanstein because it allows you to really understand the architecture and inner beauty. Tourists should know that this wasn’t meant to be a place to hold royal court, but an escape where King Ludwig II of Bavaria could go and be himself. Much like a treehouse in the backyard, but as a castle. Finally, tourists should look for the cool old technology within the castle walls.
